Mango Season
It is officially mango season, which
is my (Sarah) favorite fruit season in Malawi. Mango season runs from
mid- October to late November. Trucks
ship bags of mangos from the lake area to Lilongwe and we can purchase them on
almost every street corner. Beth and I
can eat a couple mangos a day, but Bruce and Grace pretty much get their season’s
full of mangos in week one. However,
there is nothing better (well maybe with the exception of a Ferjulian’s peach
in August!) than a sweet, ripe mango.
While driving back from the lake a couple of weeks ago, I was able to
purchase almost 3 dozen mangos for the equivalent of $1.80 USD. The above picture shows the typical scene of ladies selling mangos by the side of the road.
