On May 14th, I (Sarah) celebrated another birthday. I got to celebrate with Bruce and the girls with a birthday lunch, complete with gifts and a chocolate cake made by Grace (with help from Bruce). In the evening, Bruce and I went out to Kambuli Lodge which is this beautiful restaurant and lodge about 20 minutes from our house. The food was amazing and the setting was just beautiful.

My birthday presents this year were out of this world! Grace picked out a set of six carved wooden drink coasters from the wood market in town for me. My second gift (which Bruce mentioned in our last blog posting) was amazing. I had mentioned to him earlier in the week that I would "kill" for a functional travel mug. We neglected to pack one with us and carrying a open coffee mug while pushing a stroller doesn't work very well! We had purchased a travel mug a couple of months ago from a man selling them on the side of the road. However after numerous washings we couldn't get the awful smell out of it AND it leaked profusely when one tried to drink from it. Anyways this new mug is 100% improved and works wonders....I love it! My last present was a 2 day, 1 night getaway to the lake with my friend Christy. My very thoughtful husband knew that the greatest gift he could give me was some time away at the lake, soaking in the sun, reading and enjoying time with Christy before she returns to the states next month. Here are some pictures (taken by Christy) of our getaway to Safari Lodge on the lake. All in all, my first birthday here in Africa was really special and memorable.
